Yummy Wok Information

Tucked along Brandon Avenue in Norfolk, Yummy Wok has the kind of low-key charm that regulars tend to appreciate more with each visit. The location isn’t flashy, but that’s part of its appeal-it feels like a neighborhood staple where the focus stays firmly on the food rather than the frills. Walking in, the atmosphere is simple and casual, with a steady flow of takeout orders and a handful of diners enjoying their meals in a relaxed setting.

The menu leans heavily into classic Chinese-American comfort dishes, offering everything from General Tso’s chicken to lo mein, fried rice, and a surprisingly solid selection of vegetable-based options. What stands out is the consistency. On a recent visit, the sesame chicken came out perfectly balanced-crispy without being greasy, coated in a sauce that had just enough sweetness without tipping over into syrupy territory. The portions are generous, easily enough for leftovers, which is something many reviews from locals also tend to highlight.

Service is quick and efficient, especially during peak hours when the place gets busy with takeout traffic. It’s not the kind of spot where you linger for hours, but that’s not the expectation here. Orders are prepared promptly, and the staff keeps things moving without sacrificing accuracy. From experience, even custom requests-like dialing back the spice level or swapping sides-are handled without much fuss.

One thing worth noting is that while the dining area is clean and functional, it’s fairly minimal, so most people opt for takeout or delivery. That said, the food holds up well on the go, which speaks to the kitchen’s attention to preparation and packaging. It’s also a reliable option for a quick lunch or an easy dinner after a long day, especially given its convenient location in Norfolk.

For anyone exploring local eateries or looking for dependable Chinese takeout, Yummy Wok fits the bill without overcomplicating things. It may not reinvent the cuisine, but it delivers exactly what it promises-solid flavors, fair prices, and a menu that covers all the familiar favorites.

What People's Say About Place

It was a crazy busy Friday night, but the owners/workers were moving like lightning. We got mu shu pork and they didn't charge us for bonus sauce or wraps. The atmosphere is basic Chinese takeout, and the food was authentic, hot, and made with love. They're good people. Give them your business!

Yummy Wok is (as far as I know) the only place in the area that does Northern Chinese doughy dumplings, and they are wonderful. Rich and savory filling, garlic-soy-ginger-chive-vinegar dumplings sauce perfectly balanced, dough springy and chewy and comfort-food thick (and not tough or gluey, just worked exactly right). This dish is my food equivalent of a weighted blanket: heavy enough to settle and ground the body and mind, but also so flavorful that it cheers up the spirit. Highly recommend!

I usually pick up and I’m never disappointed. Tonight we ordered for delivery and everything arrived so much faster than estimated, and hot! Delicious chicken lo mein and chicken + garlic sauce!

We just moved to town and decided to try Yummy Wok for dinner. Being born and raised in NJ, I grew up around some of the best local Chinese food — so I can be a little picky when trying new places! Luckily, I don’t have to look any further. This is our new go-to spot. The hot and sour soup was perfect, and the vegetable lo mein was fresh and flavorful. My husband loved his wonton soup and Hunan beef. Overall, great experience — we’ll definitely be back!

It is a little more money than most takeouts. I only got 7 of the 8 dumplings. They are giant but still the menu said 8. Food was good and tasty.

Edit: gave it a second chance. Is so good! Maybe the last time was a fluke. Tried the general TSO and the spicy beef. Both came with nice portions, hot and tasty. Also the service is pretty quick. The last time I was complaining about there being only 6 shrimp in the rice and shrimp. Also the beef tasted funky but not anymore.

Eaten here regularly whilst living in Ghent (and would happily detour to, as well (update: have detoured and will do again!). Great tasting food and always well looked after with quick friendly service.

Best Chinese in Norfolk. Not only Norfolk, but Ghent Norfolk. If you want high quality food and awesome service with respect, you found the perfect fast food Chinese restaurant. A++ service!
